Living with anxiety is tough. I’d love to write about it in more detail but I’m afraid that people would read it and make judgements about the author.
Sometimes, the panic is such that even a full dose of TyPM and a prescription tranq are not enough to get my eyelids to shut.
On nights like that, all I can do is wait.

How I Managed to Alienate Two Obama Supporters
A pair of middle-aged women showed up at my door the other night. They had clipboards and they were wearing blue buttons. They didn’t have to say it, but they did anyway: “We’re talking to people about voting for Barack Obama,” she said, in the passive, indirect way that a therapist would tell you to talk to somebody who disagreed with you.
An aside: I live on the...

AC/DC 'Rock Band' Expansion Announced →
yes! The biggest hole in the music game genre has been a lack of rollicking, good time rock. The Who album helped a little. This seals the deal.
Also, while I’d love the original masters, this all-live tracks release marks one of AC/DC’s best live recordings.

A Dream I Had
Every generation, young men in the city of Wheeling are designated either red or blue. They are transformed into life-sized army men of their color. A war ensues. This war usually coincides with a breakdown of society, when a kind of fascist, ancient vigilante-based justice system takes over. Women are not allowed to leave their homes unattended, for example.

When we die, we leave stuff behind.
Even the Pharaohs left their stuff behind, even though they thought it would go to the afterlife when they did. Written on the walls of their tombs were the stories of their lives, and they left those behind, too.
We have our own hieroglyphs, except they’re electronic. They no longer even reside in one physical space - they swim among a few trillion other bits of information in a vast...
A Politician Lies and Dave Gets Angry →
Dave used to be angry a lot. It fueled him, made him funnier. Witness any of his work on Late Nite in the 80s. So when McCain gets caught weaseling out of a guest spot on Dave’s show, we get a bit of the old Letterman. Stay angry, Dave!

Spoiler Alert!
Just in case you haven’t read a science fiction book in the last twenty years, Eagle Eye, opening this weekend, is about a rogue artifical intelligence.
I didn’t need anybody to tell me that, and I didn’t look it up online. All it took was seeing the trailer.
If i’m wrong, I will congratulate Hollywood for fooling me. But I’m not wrong.

Who I'm Going to Vote For
Allow me to begin by paraphrasing a quote, cleverly manipulated to agree with my point of view and not the originator of the line, who would probably disagree: It’s not Obama I have a problem with, it’s his fan club.
The man who said that was originally talking about Jesus, and it’s a clever line because the man who said it is clever, too: the Rev. Ivan Stang of the Church...

One Last Smoke
Exactly one year ago tonight, I smoked one more cigarette. It was not the first time I smoked one last cigarette, so I didn’t really know how it was going to go. I told my friends that I wouldn’t be joining them to the bar for a while, bought a pack of nicotine patches at Target and on September 21st I smoked one more cigarette, right before bed.
It’s funny that people ask you...

My Nightmare Scenario
Everything I write is pap. It’s juvenile, escapist tripe. I write overbearing Mary Sue melodramas. I write predictable shaggy dog stories with loose, unwieldily prose, incomprehensible mixed metaphors and sloppy sentence constructions.
I’m wasting my time. I’m pounding my head against a career I don’t deserve while working an easy, unchallenging job for decent...

What Rock Band 2 Is Like
It’s like the first one, except with more game modes and slightly updated interfaces. Oh, there are more songs to play, too, but you have to “unlock” them.
That means you have to go through playlists and song collections and play the same songs over and over again. Occasionally some of these songs might be made available to you to play them when you’re just hanging out...

My Eulogy to Bad Times
When you get glasses as a child, the fact that you will always lack keen eyesight is not nearly as devastating to you as would receiving the same news as an adult.
When you’re a child, a man in a dark suit with wrinkles on his face comes to you, sits down at your kitchen table, and tells you all of the bad things that you will have to suffer.
You will make hard decisions and your...
