My dear and departed Aunt Posy was an artist and history enthusiast - many of her relatives (including this one) share those qualities, but few embodied them more consistently or with more fervor than Posy (my Mom is one of the few who outdid Posy on this, and the margin is high).
A big concentration in this tendency is for military history in specific. Our ancestors did a lot of fighting and subsequent ancestors kept a lot of records. My grandfather (and my mother’s and Posy’s father) was an amateur Civil War historian, and that love of all things military was similarly passed on to us.
The above sculpture is a pair of jousting knights, built, painted and assembled by Posy and her then-husband David. This is one of my favorite pieces of hers. It now resides in a place of honor next to my kitchen and on top of my book shelf, the most honored and fitting place I could have put it.
